Types of Hyundai Keys We Replace and Program
Hyundai has used several different key technologies across its model range over the past two decades, and the type of key your vehicle requires makes a significant difference in the replacement process. Older Hyundai models — think early 2000s Elantras and Accents — used a basic transponder key with a small chip embedded in the head. That chip must be programmed to match your car's immobilizer, or the engine simply won't start even if the physical cut is perfect. We program these chips on-site using professional-grade equipment, no tow truck to the dealer required.
Newer Hyundai models complicate things further in the best possible way. Key fobs with separate lock/unlock buttons, flip keys that fold the blade into the fob body, and proximity smart keys — often called Blue Link smart keys or push-to-start fobs — all require precise programming matched to your vehicle's VIN and immobilizer data. The Hyundai Palisade, Tucson, and Santa Fe, for example, commonly use proximity smart keys that communicate with your car continuously. If you've lost all copies of a smart key, the system may need to be re-initialized entirely, which our mobile technicians are fully equipped to perform right where your car is parked.
